Jacob van Schuppen
Jacob van Schuppen (born January 26, 1670 in Fontainebleau , † January 29, 1751 in Vienna ) was court painter at the imperial court in Vienna.
Life
He was called to Vienna in 1716 and in 1726 by Emperor Karl VI. appointed director of the “Kk Court Academy of Painters, Sculptors and Architecture” , which he initially fundamentally reorganized. After the death of Emperor Charles VI. From 1740 the support of the court for the academy became less and less, so that they had to move to van Schuppen's private house and the lessons were then stopped. One year before Schuppen's death, the art academy was placed under the supervision of the new Oberhof building director Adam Philipp Losy von Losinthal .
Among the most important works by van Schuppen are portraits and altarpieces in the Karlskirche in Vienna and the Salesian Church, as well as ceiling paintings in the Eroica Hall of the Dietrichstein-Lobkowitz Palace .
