Jacobs River is a small farm town in the Westland District on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand . The Makaawhio River , on which the place is located, was formerly also called the Jacobs River .
geography
Jacobs River is about 2 km inland directly on State Highway 6 and the Makawhio River . The Fox Glacier is located around 30 km northeast of the village and, along with the nearby Franz Josef Glacier, is a tourist attraction. The village consists of a small group of farms that extend over the last 10 km to the confluence of the sea on both sides of the Makawhio Rivers have settled.
From the Jacobs River you have a view of Aoraki / Mount Cook, 37 km to the east . A small wooden church called " Our Lady of the Rive " is 7 km north of the settlement.
history
Jacobs River owned one of the smallest schools in the country for many years. By order of the Minister of Education on December 12, 2012 , the Jacobs River School was closed forever on January 27, 2013.
