Life

Jaqueline Louise Barrett grew up in Chandler, Arizona. She attended Arizona State University where she also met her husband John Livingston. Together they organized demonstrations for more rights, against the corrupt government or the Vietnam War .

In the mid-1970s, Livingston began to depict male sexuality in her work a way to overcome the distance she felt from the male body . She worked as a photographer and art professor at Cornell University. In the summer of 1978, she finally lost her job at the university due to the publicity of her son's nude photos showing him in sexual poses. Jaqueline Livingston was never convicted, but she was suspected of being involved in child pornography. Her gallery, which opened in SoHo in New York City in 1982, was therefore monitored by the FBI .

In 1992 Livingston was diagnosed with breast cancer. She died in Ithaca on June 21, 2013.
