Jacqueline Pirenne

Jacqueline Pirenne (* 1918 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ; † November 8, 1990 in Strasbourg ) was a French archaeologist .

Life

The granddaughter of the Belgian historian Henri Pirenne attended the Lycée Molière in Paris ( 16th arrondissement ) and finished her studies at the Louvain University . From 1957 to 1985 she worked at the Center national de la recherche scientifique , most recently as scientific director.

The focus of her research was in southern Arabia ( Yemen , especially the ancient Saba and Qataban , compare al-Masajid , where she researched changes in the typeface of inscriptions) and Ethiopia . There Pirenne researched the Semitic languages on the Arabian Peninsula . Around 1985 she returned to France forever and accepted a teaching position at the University of Strasbourg .
