Jacques Bisceglia

Jacques Bisceglia (born October 21, 1940 in Paris ; † March 1, 2013 ibid) was a French jazz photographer, music producer , author and comic book collector.

Life

Bisceglia began his career as a photographer in the early 1960s after completing his military service in Algeria , when he photographed jazz greats like Rex Stewart in Paris . At the end of that decade he worked on the first issues of Claude Delcloo's music magazine Actuel and then worked with Delcloo for the music label BYG Actuel , for which he photographed. He brought numerous musicians to the label and produced albums for the Art Ensemble of Chicago (A Jackson in Your House) , Don Cherry , Yusef Lateef , Archie Shepp , Alan Silva and Sun Ra . His photographs are on albums and the like. a. by Andrew Cyrille , Claude Delcloo, Steve Kuhn and Kenneth Terroade . A fan of free jazz , he wrote in later years about musicians such as Billy Bang and William Parker .

Bisceglia was also active as a collector of comics and was considered a specialist in this field due to his relevant publications. He was the editor of Papiers Nickelés magazine . Bisceglia, who was a member of the French Académie du Jazz , died on March 1, 2013 of complications from a sclerotic nerve disease.
