Jacques Faizant (born October 30, 1918 in Laroquebrou , Cantal Department , † January 14, 2006 in Suresnes ) was a French cartoonist . He became known as a cartoonist of French politicians in the daily Le Figaro .

Life

Jacques Faizant was one of the most popular cartoonists in the French press . He spent his school days in Biarritz and learned hotel management in Nice . He worked in the hotel business for six years before devoting himself to animation and humor drawing .

He published his first drawing in the Dimanche illustré newspaper in 1942 , but his career did not begin until the end of the Second World War . In 1956 Marcel Dassault ordered some of his drawings for the weekly Jours de France . On September 1, 1960, he became a political illustrator at Figaro , and his caricatures appeared on the title page for almost 40 years . Charles de Gaulle , whom Faizant always admired, was one of his favorite caricatures. Since November 29, 1999, his drawings were only found in the newspaper and were finally discontinued on October 3, 2005. Faizant felt sick and tired at this point and it was mutually decided to end the collaboration. It is believed that Jacques Faizant produced more than 50,000 drawings over the course of his career. He always claimed of himself that he was more of a journalist than a draftsman. He was also a novelist and playwright.
