Jacques Ferrand (General)

Jacques Ferrand (born November 14, 1746 in Ormoy , † September 30, 1804 in Amance ) was a French politician and general of the infantry .

Live and act

At the age of 19, Ferrand was enlisted for the royal army on January 13, 1765. Ferrand was able to distinguish himself through bravery in several battles between 1781 and 1783 and was also promoted very quickly: Caporal (February 4, 1766), Sergent (November 16, 1767) and Sergeant-major (June 6, 1776). He fought in Lille (April 1792), Verdun (August / September 1792) and Jemappes (November 6, 1792).

Ferrand became a supporter of Napoleon early on . On September 8, 1793 he was promoted to Général de division and as such he served in 1795 as military commander of the city of Besançon . Ferrand fell out of favor with the Directory , was removed from office and arrested on January 16, 1796. He was soon rehabilitated through the intercession of General Lazare Nicolas Marguerite Carnot .

Ferrand was appointed commander of a Légion des Vétérans de Franche-Comté and as such appointed mayor of Amance. On April 12, 1797 he became a member of the Council of Five Hundred (Conseil des Cinq-Cents) and represented the Haute-Saône department . On September 4, 1797, he gave up this office and returned to Amance. He died on September 30, 1804 in Amance, where he found his final resting place.
