Jagnjenica ( Serbian - Cyrillic Јагњеница , Albanian  also  Jagnjenicë ) is a village in the municipality of Zubin Potok in northern Kosovo. It is about ten kilometers west of Mitrovica . The population was estimated at 88 in 2009.

history

On October 20, 2011, in the wake of the customs conflict between Serbia and Kosovo in Jagnjenica, KFOR cleared one of three heavy trucks that were blocking access to the Brnjak border crossing . Tear gas was also used.

On November 28, two KFOR soldiers were lightly wounded by gunfire while clearing a barrier in Jagnjenica. During the initially successful evacuation, KFOR used tear gas and rubber bullets. The situation later escalated and the KFOR soldiers were attacked with assault rifles, a hand grenade, fireworks, Molotov cocktails, stones and roof battens, whereupon warning shots were fired. At 8 p.m. in the evening there were also arson attacks on two tents. A total of 23 soldiers were wounded in the fighting that day, including the German commander Lieutenant Colonel Klaus Glaab. An Austrian KFOR soldier has meanwhile been put into an artificial coma. 30 injured civilians also reported. The next day, November 29, demonstrators and soldiers faced each other in Jagnjenica. The day passed without major incidents. The Austrian Defense Minister Norbert Darabos described the violent demonstrators as " hooligans and mercenaries " who were not part of the local population and were sent to Jagnjenica by strangers. He explicitly ruled out any connection with the Serbian government. Due to the incident, the KFOR units in the north of the country are to be reinforced by 120 men on November 30th.
