Century books . Great theories from Freud to Luhmann is the title of an anthology that was published in 2000 by Walter Erhart and Herbert Jaumann in the publishing house CH Beck . It collects works in which important social science theories were developed in the 20th century.

The book was preceded by a series of lectures at the University of Greifswald , which took place in the 1998/99 winter semester and 1999 summer semester. It had the general theme Books of the Century - Theories of the 20th Century .

The foreword says about the selection made:

“Like any list of this kind, this compilation of theories of the 20th century is contestable - but it is one of the effects we would like this volume to have if it provokes questions about which other focal points and books can be used to create a different, perhaps alternative list could or should set up.
