Jai Jagat 2020

Jai Jagat 2020 ( Hindi ; translated: "Victory for All" or "Victory for the World") is an international star march that campaigns for social justice, peace and the fight against global warming .

History and background

The march “Jai Jagat 2020” began on October 2nd, 2019, the 150th birthday of Gandhi , in New Delhi . According to the organizers, 200 people are taking part in India , and 10,000 participants are expected for the further course. On November 26, 2019, the march passed the factory premises of the chemical company Union Carbide in Bhopal, India . The aim is to reach the United Nations headquarters in Geneva on September 25, 2020 . The "People's Parliament" with 5000 people from more than 30 nations is to be organized there from September 25th to October 2nd, 2020. The march, financed by donations, was initiated by the Indian social movement Ekta Parishad , which invokes Gandhi, and by the Indian activist Rajagopal PV . Founded. There were kick-off events in 2019 in Basel , Madrid , Brussels , Cologne , Birmingham and Lidköping (Sweden), among others .

Planned route

According to a video from the Jai Jagat campaign in Cologne, the route initially runs through several Indian states. Then the participants fly to Dubai and go by ship to Iran . From there it goes on foot through Iran, Armenia , Azerbaijan and Georgia . This is followed by a crossing by ship to Bulgaria and another march through Serbia , Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia to the Adriatic coast. The participants then travel to Italy by ship . From there it goes on to Geneva. A star march is planned in Germany . The planned starting points are Travemünde-Hafen (start: July 5, 2020), Berlin (July 12, 2020) and Cologne (August 2, 2020). Due to the corona pandemic , those responsible for Jai Jagat decided in March 2020 to temporarily cancel the march. Around 50 activists who had reached Armenia were unable to march on because of the impending border closings. It is still open whether European partial marches will take place in September 2020. There are also plans to hold the “People's Parliament” in Geneva in a shortened form.
