Jaisalmer ( Hindi : जैसलमेर , Jaisalmer ) was one of the princely states of the Rajputs in today's Rajasthan ( British India ), named after its capital of the same name .
history
The Hindu princely house of Jaisalmer traces its origin back to the Bhati - Rajputs , who ruled the land of Tanot from the 7th century ; however, a branch of the Chavdas was also active in the Jaisalmer area from the 10th century . In 1156, Rawal Jaisal founded Jaisalmer City and State. Rawal Bhim Singh (1578-1624) was an ally of the United Mughals of Delhi and Rawal Sahal Singh (1651-1661) whose vassal. His successor Amar Singh (1661-1702) was raised to Maharawal, since 1891 the title was Maharajadhiraj Maharawal.
In 1818 Jaisalmer became a British protectorate . In 1941 the princely state had an area of 41,440 km² and around 80,000 inhabitants.
On March 30, 1949, Rajasthan joined the Union and on April 7, 1949, it joined India . On November 1, 1956, the princely state was dissolved.
