Jacob Christians
Jakob Christen (born August 18, 1825 in Itingen , † June 25, 1914 in Muttenz ) was a Swiss politician and judge .
Life
Christen trained as a geometer in Basel from 1840 to 1845 . He created the topographical survey of the Basel half-cantons for the Dufour map and carried out line projects for the Swiss Central Railway .
In the years 1850, 1887 and 1891 Christen was a member of the constitutional council of Baselbieter and from 1854 to 1858 mayor of Itingen. From 1856 to 1858 and from 1881 to 1909 he was a member of the district administrator for the liberal as well as for the party of order . He was a member of the government from 1858 to 1863 and was responsible for construction and military and later for the interior.
From 1867 to 1878, Christen was the manager of a spinning mill in Arlesheim and in 1883 he founded a cement factory in Muttenz. From 1857 to 1858 he was district judge in Sissach , from 1881 to 1889 in Arlesheim and from 1889 to 1908 justice of the peace for Birsfelden , Muttenz and Münchenstein .
