Jakob Eduard Schmölzer (born March 9, 1812 in Graz ; † January 9, 1886 in Kindberg ) was an Austrian composer and collector of Styrian folk songs , e.g. B. composed by Anton Schosser .

Schmölzer learned to play the flute. Married Louise Pferschy in 1835 and moved to Kindberg in 1857 and lived in the castle. He collected Styrian songs and composed. Was called "Steirischer Liedervater" and was administrator in Oberkindberg Castle. He died in Kindberg in 1886. The Jakob Eduard Schmölzer secondary school in Kindberg is named after him.

Schmölzer's songs are sung by many Styrian choirs.
