Jakob Euler (born August 20, 1842 in Bensberg ; † April 26, 1917 there ) was a German master carpenter and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Euler attended elementary school in Bensberg from 1848 to 1856 and the drawing and advanced training school in the Catholic journeyman's association in Cologne under Adolph Kolping from 1857 to 1860. He first worked in mining for two years and then learned the carpentry trade from his stepfather . In 1861 he passed the journeyman's examination in Mülheim am Rhein and from 1861 to 1862 he took lessons in drawing and mathematics in Krefeld . Euler served in the Hohenzollern Fusilier Regiment No. 40 in Saarlouis from 1862 to 1865 and made the wars of 1866 and 1866 with the same regiment1870/71 with. In 1868 he passed the master craftsman examination in Cologne and was since then an independent master craftsman in Cologne-Kalk until 1870 . In 1871 he settled in his parents' house in Bensberg as a carpenter.

From 1881 he was excellently active in the craft movement, u. a. He founded the “Association of Independent Craftsmen” and from 1883 to 1888 was the editor of the craftsmen's newspaper “Die Innung”, founded by the Prince of Isenburg-Birstein, and wrote about specialist and advanced training schools. From 1900 he was deputy chairman of the Cologne Chamber of Crafts. Between 1890 and 1903 he was a member of the local council.

From 1893 to 1907 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Münster 3 administrative district ( Borken , Recklinghausen ) and from 1907 for the Trier -Stadt constituency and the German Center Party . In the 1893 Reichstag elections, Euler won the election of the Catholic craftsmen against the official candidate for the center and former member of the Reichstag, Albert Beckmann . From 1894 until his death he was also a member of the Prussian House of Representatives . Since he was significantly involved in the creation of the law in 1897, he was called the father of the Craftsman Protection Act.
