Johann Jakob Filser (born July 13, 1802 in Kaufbeuren ; † March 27, 1880 in Munich ) was a German draftsman, drawing teacher and specialist author.

Life

Johann Jakob Filser was one of ten children of the married couple Johann Michael Filser (born August 31, 1750 in Kaufbeuren, † 1837) and Walburga, née Hummel (born October 23, 1764 in Kaufbeuren).

On November 6, 1823, Jakob Filser's entry into the Munich Art Academy in the subject "Applied Art" is documented. From 1826 he worked as a drawing teacher at the private Beiling'schen educational institute in Munich, where he taught head, landscape and flower drawing as the successor to Ludwig Albert von Montmorillon (1794–1854). In 1829 he married the weaver's daughter Theres Baldauf (1802–1842) from Haag in Upper Bavaria and settled with her in the Munich suburb of Au. For the school year 1841/42 he was employed as a drawing teacher at the drawing school of the Central Holiday School in Munich . Numerous subsequently prominent artists prepared with him for studies at the art academy, such as Franz von Defregger and Peter Baumgartner.

On the occasion of its presentation at the Vienna World Exhibition of 1873 , Filser's collection, made from 150 plaster casts of leaves and whole plants, was awarded a prize for studying ornamentation and was acquired by both the City of Vienna and the Munich Polytechnic . The use of the two booklets he published with drawing templates for teaching was recommended by the Bavarian Ministry for Church and School Affairs on the basis of recommendations from the Royal Art Academy for state and private teaching institutions.
