Jakob Ginzel
Jakob Ginzel (born July 14, 1792 in Reichenberg ; † March 31, 1862 there ) was a Bohemian painter.
Ginzel learned to be a carpenter in his father's workshop. From 1814 to 1817 he studied painting at the Prague Art Academy.
From 1818 he worked as a painter, first in Dresden , then in his hometown. Ginzels painterly focus was on portrait painting , which mainly depicted important citizens of Reichenberg and Gablonz . He was best known for a large number of manufactured Christmas cribs. In the workshops of Ginzel and Joseph von Führich , the second well-known nativity scene maker in the Jizera Mountains , who lived around the same time, artistically painted figures were made from papier-mâché.
A painting and drawing school that Ginzel opened in Prague in 1840 was unsuccessful, so that he soon stopped working in Prague and reopened his studio in Reichenberg.
His most important creation is the Bethlehem diorama from 1853 .
