Jakob Gruber (born July 23, 1864 in Hallein ; † July 9, 1915 in Vienna ) was an Austrian sculptor .

Life

Gruber was the son of a miner, which is reflected in his works on the subject of mining . He originally worked as a wood carver and ornamenter. After his military service he moved to Vienna and studied at the arts and crafts school for 5 years. Gruber was supported by the Schwestern-Fröhlich-Stiftung through a grant. Gruber then studied from 1892 to 1898 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Caspar Zumbusch . In 1895 he was awarded the court prize for his work "Kampf", in 1900 he received the Reichel Prize for Sculpture for the bronze group "Buried Miners".

Works

Gruber's works are mostly life-size sculptures. He also made portrait medallions, especially in Rome , Florence and Naples . His works of art have been exhibited in Vienna , Berlin and Munich , among others . His most famous works include:
