from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Reichel Prize (Reichel Artist Prize) was an award from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , which was awarded between 1808 and 1929 by the Academy's professors for special artistic achievements.

The price was donated on May 17, 1808 by the kk field war registrar Josef Benedict Reichel and was endowed with around 1,500 guilders or 3,200 kroner . The first artist to receive this award in 1809 was the painter Anton Petter . From 1899 the award was shared with the Vienna Secession and in 1902 the Hagenbund was also included.

After the foundation's assets were devalued by inflation, the prize was awarded for the last time in 1929.
