Anton Petter
Anton Petter (born April 12, 1781 in Vienna ; † May 14, 1858 there ) was an Austrian painter .
Life
Anton Petter was born in the then Viennese suburb of Mariahilf and was the son of the draftsman and architect Johann Baptist Petter and the cousin of the flower painter Franz Xaver Petter . From 1792 he studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts , where he mainly copied old masters . In 1808 he went to Rome and in 1809 was the first artist to receive the Reichel Prize endowed with 1500 guilders . In 1814 Petter became a member of the Vienna Academy, in 1820 a proofreader and in 1822 a professor of history painting . From 1829 to 1850 he headed the academy's painting and sculpture school.
