Edmund Paul Andreas Hofmann von Aspernburg (born November 2, 1847 in Pest , † March 30, 1930 in Vienna ) was an Austrian sculptor .

Life

Edmund Hofmann von Aspernburg completed his studies at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts . F. Bauer, Carl Kundmann and Caspar von Zumbusch were among his teachers . In 1873 Hofmann von Aspernburg received the Reichel Prize . The sculptor was popular during the Ringstrasse era and received numerous commissions, including from the public sector. From 1875 Hofmann von Aspernburg was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus. In 1932 a memorial exhibition was held for the artist.

Edmund Hofmann von Aspernburg is buried in a grave of honor in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 12 A, Row 12, No. 4).

Works

Edmund Hofmann of Aspern Burg's works include Hercules and the Hydra of 1890 at the Viennese castle gate at Michaelerplatz , fountain figures on the Maria Theresa Square , the bronze, of Cupids steered Centaurs on the front steps of the Academy of Fine Arts from the years 1890/91 and the bronze statue of the namesake on Fr.-von-Schmidt-Platz from 1896. The Archduke Karl Ludwig fountain, which was in the 18th district and dates from 1904 to 1906, has not survived. A part of the plastic decoration of the parliament building, the Burgtheater , the natural history museum , the artist house, the Viennese town hall, the university and other publicly accessible buildings was also designed by Hofmann von Aspernburg.

In Vienna's central cemetery there are memorials of honor designed by Hofmann von Aspernburg: the tomb for Karl von Blaas and the memorial for Julius Victor Berger .

Outside Vienna there are monuments made by the artist e.g. B. in Cormòns , Görz , Marburg an der Drau and Temesvár .
