Alfred Hofmann (born November 28, 1879 in Vienna ; † August 1, 1958 there ) was an Austrian sculptor , medalist , gem cutter and wood carver.

Life

Hofmann studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1895 to 1904 , his teachers were the sculptors Edmund von Hellmer and Caspar von Zumbusch . In 1905/1906 he went on a study trip to Italy . In 1906 he was awarded the Reichel Prize . From 1906 to 1939 he was a member of the Vienna Secession and the Vienna Künstlerhaus . He created portraits , busts and statuettes from a wide variety of materials, such as artificial stone , bronze , marble , limestone , shell cameos and others. On October 3, 1915, a "field howitzer in iron" (see war nails ) designed by Hofmann and manufactured by members of the kk Landwehr field howitzer division No. 13 was unveiled in the covered riding school of the Rennweg barracks .

The Museum of Military History , the Museum of Art History , the Austrian Belvedere Gallery and the Wroclaw City Museum have works by Alfred Hofmann in their collections.

Alfred Hofmann was a member of the German Association of Artists .

Awards

His work has received several awards. In 1906 he received the Reichel Prize for his plastic flower . In 1921 and 1924 he was awarded the State Prize for the statuette painter Hänisch .
