Jacob Israel Belmonte
Jakob Israel Belmonte , also Diego Nunes , (* around 1570 in Madeira ; † December 4, 1629 in Amsterdam ) was a co-founder of the Amsterdam Portuguese-Jewish community.
Belmonte was a wealthy Portuguese-Jewish merchant in Amsterdam. He is next to Jacob Tirado and Samuel Palache as one of the founding fathers of the Sephardic congregation Beth Jacob . According to Miguel de Barrios, he wrote the job , a poetic representation of the Inquisition in 100 verses.
Belmonte is a place in Portugal with a formerly large Jewish community with numerous Marranos .
