Jakob Karl Ernst Sommer
Jakob Karl Ernst Sommer , also Jakob Carl Ernst Sommer (born December 2, 1911 in Mamuret-ul-Asis , † November 7, 1981 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German Methodist bishop .
Life
Sommer was born as the son of the Methodist missionary and later Bishop Johann Wilhelm Ernst Sommer and his English wife Beatrice. Dibben born. He grew up in Falkenberg (Mark) and from 1920 in Frankfurt am Main, where, after graduating from high school in 1929, he studied German, English and philosophy in addition to theology. After graduating as Dr. phil. In 1935 he passed the first state examination in 1936 and the second state examination in 1938. In addition to his work as a teacher (interrupted by his work as a soldier in France and North Africa and as a prisoner of war), he also worked as a Methodist lay preacher from 1936. In 1950 he became a lecturer at the Methodist seminary in Frankfurt am Main, which he 1951 the ordination received.
In 1968 Jakob Karl Ernst Sommer was elected Bishop of the Evangelical Methodist Church in Germany as successor to Friedrich Wunderlich and remained in this office until 1977. He represented his church in the World Council of Methodist Churches and in the Association of Evangelical Free Churches (temporarily as President).
