Jakob Oeri-Hoffmann

Jakob “Joggi” Oeri-Hoffmann (born May 7, 1920 in Riehen ; † October 1, 2006 in Basel ) was a Swiss doctor , entrepreneur , patron and politician .

Jakob Oeri was the son of the journalist and politician Albert Oeri . He studied medicine at the University of Basel and was established in 1951 with a thesis on the non-coagulation of bleeding doctorate .

From 1948 he was married to Vera Oeri-Hoffmann (1924–2003), the granddaughter of Roche founder Fritz Hoffmann . He was a member of the Roche Board of Directors from 1966 to 1996 . The Hoffmann and Oeri families hold a majority in the Basel pharmaceutical company with 50.01 percent of the votes; the wealth of families is estimated at 15 to 16 billion Swiss francs (as of 2006).

Jakob Oeri-Hoffmann worked for the Roche Research Foundation and the Institute for Immunology Basel . He was also involved as a patron in music, art and museums.

Oeri-Hoffmann was a representative of the Liberal Democratic Party of the Basel Grand Council for twelve years , and in 1969 he was its President.

As an ambitious amateur photographer, he published the photo book " Ein Museum im Werden ", photographs on the history of the history of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation and the public art collection in Basel through the renovation of an old factory, in the Benteli publishing house.

Jakob Oeri-Hoffmann died of long-term dementia and leaves behind a son and four daughters. He found his final resting place in the Wolfgottesacker cemetery .
