Jakob Pernisch

Jakob Pernisch (* 1717 in S-chanf ; † October 17, 1807 ) was a Swiss Reformed theologian .

Life

Jakob Pernisch was born in S-chanf in the Upper Engadin in 1717 . In 1736 he began studying theology for three years at the University of Basel . After completing his studies, he was accepted into the Graubünden Synod on June 26, 1739 in Zernez , which allowed him to work as a pastor in Graubünden . However, he had been pastor of the Vicosoprano parish since 1737 .

In 1771 the Synod appointed him Vice Dean of the Association of Churches . In the following year he was called to Samedan as a clergyman , and in 1781 he became President of the Upper Engadin Colloquium . He retired from the parish in Samedan in 1800 and died on October 17, 1807.

Pernisch's work included the struggle against the Moravian Brethren , which at that time influenced the theologians of the Grisons. He made a significant contribution to the so-called Herrnhuterstreit in Graubünden . So he campaigned strongly against the Moravian Brethren in the Synod. In 1778 he and his comrades dissolved the synod in Sent , as there was too much sympathy for him with the Moravians. As a result, he was at odds with the synod and other clergy in the canton over the next few years. He carried out propaganda against the Brethren by abusing his office within the synod. He also argued for years with the synod about a marriage that he had performed, although he knew that it was not legal. His writings also served as propaganda against the Brethren.
