Jakoubek z Vřesovic , German Jakob von Wrzessowitz , († around 1461 ) was a nobleman from Moravia , a military leader in the Hussite Wars and a diplomat.

Life

The impoverished Moravian country gentleman came to Bohemia during the Hussite Wars and, after the death of Wenceslas IV, sided with the Taborites . There he became one of the leaders of the Hussites over time and, after the death of Jan Žižka, one of the captains in Tábor and Bilin .

Jakoubek conquered Aussig in 1426 and held it for ten years. He also led campaigns of conquest in Saxony and Bavaria . In 1432 he took part in the negotiations between the Hussites and representatives of the Basel Council in Eger . Until Sigismund was elected King of Bohemia, he stood at the side of the orphans , then after the election he was one of the royalists. As a gift he received the manors of the monastery in Teplitz , Ploschkowitz and Theusing in Bohemia .

During the reign of Albrecht II of Habsburg , Jakoubek was appointed captain of the Saaz and Leitmeritz district and entrusted with diplomatic tasks. After 1448 he supported the election of Georg von Podiebrad as king and accumulated a fortune, the foundation stone of the Wrssowecz family (in Bohemia) from the house of the Sekerka von Sedczicz, (Wrschowetz von Werschowitz-Sekerka and Sedczicz).

Contemporaries often saw him less as a captain of the Hussites than as the commander of mercenaries , who, according to Jaromir Malý (1885–1955), editor and writer, “brave, sly and combative in nature, but erratic in his views and too much on his own Was well considered ”. Jakoubek then belonged to the Hussites who put self-interest above the ideal goals of the reform movement.
