Hermann Hallwich (born May 9, 1838 in Teplitz-Schönau , Bohemia , Austrian Empire ; † April 11, 1913 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ) was a German-Bohemian historian , economist and politician .

Life

Hermann Hallwich, a son of the Josef Hallwich couple (1804–1850), tenant of the palace garden hall in Bad Kudowa in the County of Glatz , and Aloisia, née. Gudra, graduated from high school in Komotau , studied history with Constantin von Höfler and economics at the Charles University in Prague , received his doctorate in philosophy in 1862, became a history teacher in Prague and in Reichenberg in 1864 . There he was secretary of the Reichenberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 1869 to 1891, from 1871 a German liberal member of the Bohemian state parliament as a representative of the Trautenau district , from 1873 to 1897 member of the Reichsrat in the Austrian Chamber of Deputies . Reporter on trade and customs agreements there since 1878 .

From 1891 he lived in Vienna , where in 1892 he founded the Central Association of Austrian Industrialists , of which he was president from 1904. In addition to his work in politics and industry, he was an important Wallenstein researcher. In addition, he published documents from archives and articles on local history in Northern Bohemia, including a history of his native Teplitz . He was a co-founder of the Association for the History of Germans in Bohemia, in whose newsletter he published articles.

Hermann Hallwich collected precious historical miniatures carved in ivory , which included 40 carvings of leaders and historical scenes from the time of the Thirty Years' War . This collection, together with another collection of graphic sheets, pictures and engravings from the 17th century with portraits of commanders of the Thirty Years' War, was acquired by the Eger Museum after Hallwich's death in 1913 .
