Jakub Wujek
Jakub Wujek (* 1541 in Wągrowiec ; † 1597 in Kraków ) was a Polish Jesuit , religious writer and author of an early, influential Catholic translation of the Bible into Polish.
Wujek studied philosophy at the University of Vienna and theology at the Collegium Romanum . He was the author of the translation of the Bible (the complete edition appeared in 1599, two years after his death), numerous religious writings and collections of sermons . He was also the first rector of the Jesuit college in Poznan (1571–1578), then from 1578 rector of the Jesuit college in Vilnius and, after its conversion in 1579 to the University of Vilnius, until 1580 the first rector of this university.
