Jaliesky García Padron (born January 28, 1975 in Pinar del Río , Cuba ) is a former handball player from Cuba . He is an Icelandic citizen.
The 1.94 m tall right-handed backcourt left player was an Icelandic national player and a trained sports teacher .
He started playing handball at the age of seven. In 1996, during a stay in the USA , Jaliesky García left the Cuban team and stayed with his uncle. With the help of a Cuban exile, he started a new beginning in Iceland . In his third season with HK Kópavogur , he scored 197 goals in 24 games and moved up to the top of the Icelandic top scorer list. He was then eligible to play for the Icelandic national team. In 2003 he switched to the handball Bundesliga team FRISCH AUF! Goeppingen . In the finals of the EHF Cup 2005/06 he was defeated by TBV Lemgo . With Iceland, he took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and finished in 9th place.
The 2008/2009 season was Garcías last season as an active handball player. He then became the head coach of the national handball team of Puerto Rico .
