The Jama ( Russian Яма ) is a 285 km long tributary of the Sea of Okhotsk in the Magadan Oblast in the Far East of Russia .
River course
The Jama forms the outflow of the mountain lake Grand (Озеро Гранд), 15 km southeast of the village of Atka . The river initially flows east. For its first 15 kilometers, the river is called Maimandscha . After three kilometers, the Tengkeli meets the Maimandscha when coming from the north . Below the confluence of the Maimachan , which also comes from the north, the river is then called “Jama”. The Jama initially flows about 70 km to the east. The river cuts through the Maimanja Mountains . Then it turns south and leaves the mountainous country after another 90 km. Near the coast, the Jama turns to the southeast for its lower 100 kilometers. It is strongly intertwined on this section . Finally, the Jama 190 east reaches km of Oblasthauptstadt Magadan the Perewolotschny Bay , a lagoon-like bay on the west coast of the shelikhov gulf in the northern Sea of Okhotsk. The Jamsk settlement is located south of the estuary .
A part of the Magadan nature reserve extends over a length of 40 km along the lower reaches of the Jama.
Hydrology
The Jama drains an area of 12,500 km². The mean discharge is 150 m³ / s. The river is fed by both snowmelt and precipitation.
Fish fauna
In the Jama come u. a. Ketal salmon , pink salmon , silver salmon as well as char and grayling .
