James Alonzo Steels
James Alonzo Stahle (born January 11, 1829 in West Manchester , York County , Pennsylvania , † December 21, 1912 in York , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
James Stahle attended the public schools in his home country and the York Academy . He then completed an apprenticeship in the printing trade. He later worked as a tailor. During the Civil War he served between 1861 and October 1864 in a unit from Pennsylvania in the Union Army , in which he rose to lieutenant colonel. Between 1869 and 1885 he worked for the financial administration in York, Pennsylvania. He also worked in agriculture.
Politically, Stahle joined the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1894 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 19th constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat Frank Eckels Beltzhoover on March 4, 1895 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1896, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1897 .
After his time in the US House of Representatives, James Stahle returned to farming. He died on December 21, 1912 on his estate near York.
