James Dunkerley

James Chadwick Dunkerley OBE (born August 15, 1953 in Wokingham ) is a British political scientist and professor at Queen Mary University of London and former director of the Institute for the Study of the Americas and the Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of London. He has worked extensively on Bolivia, Central America, and other areas in Latin America. In 2010 Elizabeth II appointed him officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) on the occasion of her birthday

Education

From 1971 to 1974 he studied modern history at the University of York , Hertford College Oxford , and Nuffield College , Oxford. From 1971 to 1974, studying at the new universities often had a politicizing effect. One of his professors was Gwyn Alf Williams (September 30, 1925 - November 16, 1995), who recommended him to take a master's degree in Latin American studies at the University of Oxford . In 1977 he received his doctorate in philology.

Career

From 1979 to 1980 and from 1983 to 1984 he conducted research at the Latin America Bureau, London. From 1981 to 1982 he was a Research Fellow at the Institute for Latin American Studies, University of London. From 1982 to 1984 he conducted research at the Center for Latin American Studies, University of Liverpool . In 1985 he was a Fellow at the Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame . From 1986 to 2004 he was a lecturer in political science at Queen Mary College and Westfield College London. From 2004 he was director of the Institute for the Study of the Americas
