James Kelso (born January 8, 1869 in Cardross , † July 25, 1900 in Renton ) was a Scottish football player . He was the younger brother of the Scottish national soccer player Bob Kelso who played for Preston North End and Everton FC .

Career and life

James Kelso was born in Cardross , about six kilometers northwest of Dumbarton , in 1869 . On December 31, 1895, he married Jane Stewart in Renton. He had two children with her. With FC Renton , he won the Scottish Cup in the final against FC Vale of Leven in 1885 . A year later he reached the final with the club again, which was lost against FC Queen's Park . In 1892 he came to England Liverpool . On September 24, 1892, the 2nd match day of the Lancashire League 1892/93 , he completed his only league game for Liverpool against Bury . Liverpool won against the reigning champions 4-0. After only one season, he returned to Renton. On July 25, 1900, James Kelso and his family had just returned to Renton from a vacation on the Isle of Man . Shortly after arriving he committed at the age of 31 years suicide .
