James Kerr, 1903

James Kerr (born October 2, 1851 in Reedsville , Mifflin County , Pennsylvania , †  October 31, 1908 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1891 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Kerr received an academic education. Until 1864 he lived in Blair County ; in 1867 he moved to Clearfield , where he became justice of the peace in 1878 . In the years 1880 and 1883 he held the office of prothonotary in Clearfield County . Privately he worked in the coal and wood business. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1888 , Kerr was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 28th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Edwin Sylvanus Osborne on March 4, 1889 . Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1890, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1891 .

Between 1891 and 1895 he held the position of clerk in the US House of Representatives. He then resumed his previous activities. He died in New York City on October 31, 1908 and was buried in Clearfield.
