George Frederic Kribbs

George Frederic Kribbs (born November 8, 1846 in Clarion County , Pennsylvania , †  September 8, 1938 in Kissimmee , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1895 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Born on a farm, George Kribbs attended public schools in his home country and then the Emlenton Academy . In 1873 he graduated from Muhlenberg College in Allentown . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1875, he began to work in Clarion in this profession. In 1876 and 1889 he was also mayor there. Between 1877 and 1889 he published the Clarion Democrat newspaper. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1890 Kribbs was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 28th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded James Kerr on March 4, 1891 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1895 . In 1894 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Kribbs practiced as a lawyer again. He also became mayor of Clarion again. He was also the chairman of the board of the Clarion State Normal School . In 1896 he moved to Osceola County , Florida, where he first grew oranges. Since 1907 he lived in the local city of Kissimmee, where he again worked as a lawyer. In 1908 he became a prosecutor in Oceola County; in 1909 and 1910 he also acted there as a judge. He then worked as a lawyer again until 1926. After that, he retired. He died on September 8, 1938 in Kissimmee, where he was also buried.
