James Lapine
James Elliot Lapine (born January 10, 1949 in Mansfield , Ohio ) is an American theater and film director , librettist and screenwriter . Lapine gained particular fame for his work on the films In Love with Chopin (1991) and Into the Woods (2014). Lapine received a Pulitzer Prize , three Tony Awards, and seven other nominations for best theater director and musical writer.
Professional
In addition to his many award-winning musicals, Lapine also directed the comedy film Help! Everyone Is Great (1993), wrote the screenplay for Into the Woods (2014), and worked as a director and screenwriter for Custody (2015).
Private
Lapine is married to screenwriter and two-time Oscar winner Sarah Kernochan . The two have a daughter together.
