James McInnes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

James McInnes MBE ( May 17, 1901 - April 17, 1974 ) was a Scottish politician. Before his political engagement, he worked as a tobacco merchant. Before 1965, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire in the lowest form of a member .

Political career

Since 1923 the Unionist William Alexander held the lower house mandate of the constituency of Glasgow Central . Alexander did not run for the general election in 1945 . Instead, his party colleague Hutchison ran for the constituency's mandate. The Labor politician McInnes was his main adversary. On election day, however, McInnes could not prevail against Hutchison. By the time the general election was held in 1950 , the political mood had changed. This time McInnes won the mandate against Hutchison and thus moved into the British House of Commons for the first time . In the following general election in 1951 , 1955 , 1959 and 1964 McInnes held his mandate for Glasgow Central. He did not run for the general election in 1966 and thus left the House of Commons. However, his successor Thomas McMillan held the mandate for the Labor Party.
