James Morgan Walsh

James Morgan Walsh (born February 23, 1897 in Geelong , Victoria , † August 29, 1952 in Weston-super-Mare , Somerset ) was an Australian writer.

Life

Walsh was the son of businessman Thomas Patrick Walsh and his wife Kate Morgan. After attending elementary school in his hometown, he briefly attended Xavier College in Melbourne . He left this again in 1912 to work in his father's business.

His first literary attempts also come from this time. In 1922 Walsch settled in Melbourne with his family. Encouraged by his attempts at writing, from 1923 he devoted himself only to writing.

On January 1, 1925, Walsh married Louisa Mary Murphy at St. Joseph's Church in Port Melbourne . With her he had two children, a daughter and a son. The honeymoon took her to England and was also an emigration. Walsh settled in London with his wife . Between 1927 and 1929 they visited their old home again. In 1938, Walsh and his family settled in Weston-super-Mare. He died at the age of 55 on August 29, 1952, where he found his final resting place.

As early as 1913, Walsh made his successful debut as a writer with a short story; In 1921 he was able to publish his first novel. Walsh's oeuvre ranges from crime and espionage novels to pure adventure and SF novels .

He published nearly sixty books under his own name. He also used the pseudonyms H. Haverstock Hill , Jack Carew and George M. White . Under the first he wrote five and under the second Jack Carew three crime novels.

His audience loved him and the official literary criticism saw him as " Edward Phillips Oppenheim or Edgar Wallace of Australia". He was also compared to Louis Becke and Beatrice Grimshaw .
