James Patrick Powers (born February 6, 1953 in Baldwin , Wisconsin , United States ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Superior .

Life

Before entering the seminary of Saint Paul James Patrick Powers for several years was long holder of an insurance agency. Following his studies, he received the sacrament of ordination on May 20, 1990 for the Superior Diocese.

After his ordination he was active in various parishes in pastoral care. In 1996 he completed a year of study in canon law at Saint Paul's University in Ottawa and worked at the Diocesan Court from 1998 to 2010. From 2010 to 2014 he was Vicar General of the Superior Diocese. After Peter Forsyth Christensen's appointment as Bishop of Boise City , Powers was elected diocesan administrator of the Superior Diocese. Since 2003, he has also served as pastor of Saint Joseph in Rice Lake and parish administrator in three other parishes.

On 15 December 2015 it appointed Pope Francis to the Bishop of the Diocese of Superior . He was ordained episcopal on February 18 of the following year by the Archbishop of Milwaukee , Jerome Listecki . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Boise City , Peter Forsyth Christensen , and the Bishop of Cheyenne , Paul Dennis Etienne .
