The Diocese of Boise (also Boise City , latin Dioecesis Xylopolitana , English Diocese of Boise [City] ) is one in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Boise , Idaho .

history

The diocese of Boise was on March 3, 1863 by Pope Pius IX. established from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Oregon City as Vicariate Apostolic Idaho and Montana . On March 5, 1883, the Vicariate Apostolic Idaho and Montana gave parts of its territory to establish the Vicariate Apostolic Montana and was renamed the Vicariate Apostolic Idaho . The Apostolic Vicariate Idaho was on August 25, 1893 by Pope Leo XIII. raised to the diocese and renamed the diocese of Boise City .

The Diocese of Boise is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon as a suffragan .

The Diocese of Boise includes the state of Idaho . It is one of the few bishoprics in the USA whose borders are congruent with those of a state , other examples are the Diocese of Cheyenne and the Diocese of Providence .
