James Southam (born June 5, 1978 in Anchorage ) is a retired American cross-country skier .

Career

Southam took part in competitions of the Fédération Internationale de Ski from 1998 to 2011 . He mainly competed in the Nor-Am Cup and the US Super Tour. He won a total of four races in the US Super Tour and two races in the Nor-Am-Cup and came fourth in the overall standings in the 2008/09 season . His first of a total of 15 World Cup races he completed in January 2001 in Soldier Hollow , which he finished in 48th place in the 30 km mass start race. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf in 2005 , he came in 69th place over 15 km freestyle. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Pragelato , he finished 43rd in the 30 km skiathlon . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2007 in Sapporo , he achieved 54th place in the 15 km freestyle and 47th place in the 50 km mass start race and in the skiathlon. In January 2009 he got his first and only World Cup points in Whistler with the 22nd place in the skiathlon. His best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec were 33rd place in the 30 km skiathlon and 12th place in the relay. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver , he finished 48th in the 15 km freestyle, 34th place in the 30 km skiathlon and 28th place in the 50 km mass start race.
