James Thomson Bottomley
James Thomson Bottomley (born January 10, 1845 in Fort Breda , County Down , † May 18, 1926 in Glasgow ) was an Irish physicist and chemist.
The son of William Bottomley and nephew of Lord Kelvin , he received his bachelor's degree from Queens College in Belfast and his master's degree from Trinity College, Dublin . In Belfast he was initially assistant to Thomas Andrews . In 1868/69 he was a demonstrator of chemistry and physics at King's College London and in 1870 assistant professor of physics in Dublin. He was Lord Kelvin's deputy at the University of Glasgow . In 1872 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh .
Bottomley was married twice: first to Annie Elizabeth Heap from Manchester and a second marriage to Eliza Jennet Blandy.
