Jamie Donoughue (* in Leeds ) is a British filmmaker.

Life

Donoughue first attended Ashville College . His interest in working in film was sparked when he was working on a film set at the age of 17. He studied television and radio production at the University of Salford from 2001 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2004. After finishing his studies Donoughe went back to Leeds and worked as a freelance director. In January 2008 he co-founded the production company Left Eye Blind , with which he made music videos for Eliza Doolittle , The Enemy and The Vaccines as well as commercials, among others . He also directed the thriller Ada with Spartak Pecani . Since 2013 Donoughue has been working again as a freelance director and screenwriter, including the script for the advertising film One Leeds , which was released in 2014.

While on vacation in the Balkans in 2010, Donoughue spent five weeks in Kosovo instead of the planned three days in the wake of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption . During this time he learned a lot about the culture and history of the area and got into conversation with local residents. This inspired him to make his first short film Shok . Set in Kosovo in 1998, the film is based on real experiences of his friend Eshref Durmishi , who played the role of a soldier in the film. Shok was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Short Film in 2016 .
