content

The two 12-year-old boys Petrit and Oki are friends at the time of the Kosovo War, which is waged between the UÇK (Liberation Army of Kosovo) and the military forces of Slobodan Milošević . The story shows the fear of the children and their situation in the divided country: Petrit trades in hand- rolled cigarettes , which he sells to Serbian soldiers, while Oki is of the opinion that they cannot be trusted. Nevertheless, Petrit manages to persuade him to be part of his next business. While everything goes well at first, one of the soldiers demands Oki's bike. Deeply disappointed with the loss, Oki doesn't speak to Petrit anymore.

During a bus trip, the two get into a roadblock. You will be asked to get out and will be investigated. Albanian books are discovered at Oki. Petrit stands by him by claiming the books are his. This re-established friendship. Petrit invites Oki to stay with his family. In the morning, however, the house is stormed by soldiers. The family members are placed side by side and are to be shot. However, by intervening by a supervisor, they escape this fate. Instead, they should disappear with their belongings. While the residents are leaving the village, Oki is shot dead in the back.
