Jan Štochl (born February 3, 1975 in Pilsen , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech handball player . He is 2.01 m tall.
Štochl, who plays for the Czech club Talent MAT Plzeň (back number 12) and previously played for the Czech national team, is a handball goalkeeper .
Jan Štochl began playing handball in his hometown at Kovopetrol Pilsen, where he also made his debut in the Czech premier league. There he won the Czech championship in 1998 and 1999. In 2002 he moved to Dukla Prague, in 2005 he moved to Ahlener SG in the German 2nd handball league . There he reached the relegation to promotion to the 1st Bundesliga in 2006, but failed at Bayer Dormagen . In the summer of 2009, Štochl moved to Bergischer HC, with whom he competed in the Bundesliga in the 2011/12 season. In 2013 he moved to the second division HC Erlangen , with whom he was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga in 2014 . He has been under contract with Talent MAT Plzeň since summer 2016 .
Jan Štochl has played 80 international matches for the Czech national team. With the Czech Republic he took part in the European Championships in 1998, 2000 and 2002 as well as in the men's handball world championship in 1997 . At the 2007 men's handball world championship in Germany, however, he was no longer in the squad.
Jan's younger brother Petr is also a professional handball goalkeeper and currently plays for Füchsen Berlin .
