Jan Chęciński
Jan Konstanty Chęciński (born December 22, 1826 in Warsaw , † December 30, 1874 ibid) was a Polish writer, actor, director of the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw and professor at the Dramatic School in Warsaw.
Jan Chęciński is best known today as the author of numerous libretti for Stanisław Moniuszko's operas and introductions to well-known stage works by Juliusz Słowacki , William Shakespeare and Friedrich Schiller . As a translator of numerous libretti into Polish (e.g. Verdi's Rigoletto ), he is valued in Poland.
His son was the doctor Czesław Chęciński (1851-1916).
