Jan Christophersen

Jan Christophersen (* 1974 in Flensburg ) is a German writer .

life and work

Jan Christophersen grew up in Flensburg and graduated from high school there . From 1996 to 1997 he studied German, philosophy and general and comparative literature at the University of Leipzig . From 1998 to 2002 he studied at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig . He received several grants, including a. a residency scholarship in the artist village Schöppingen and in the monastery Cismar as well as a scholarship from the Academy of Arts in Berlin . He is also a member of the PEN Center Germany .

His first novel, Schneetage , was published in 2009 and is about a family story that takes place against the backdrop of the snow disaster of 1978/79 in a (fictional) German-Danish border town called “Vidtoft”. The novel was awarded the Buddenbrookhaus debut prize. The jury justified its decision with the “successful combination of different time levels.” He “succeeded in creating a coherent picture of the North German mentality in sparse and laconic language.” The FAZ characterized the work as a “calm, Frisian bitter and largely humorless novel Home and father search ”. His second novel, Echo , was published in 2014, takes place in Christophersen's birthplace and hometown of Flensburg and tells of "leaving and staying at home."

Christophersen is married to the writer Mareike Krügel and lives with his family near Kappeln.
