Jan Ewangelista Nowicki

Jan Ewangelista Nowicki (born December 25, 1894 in Kołomyja , today Ukraine , † August 14, 1973 in Lubaczów , Poland ) was a Polish bishop and apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of Lviv .

Nowicki grew up in Bukovina ; his father Emil Nowicki was a craftsman . In the years 1915-1919 studied Nowicki at the Lviv University theology student. He was ordained a priest on May 29, 1919 , after which Nowicki worked in some parishes in Lemberg and in smaller towns in the region. From 1924 to 1927 he studied canon law in Rome and then obtained his doctorate .

Shortly before the Second World War , Nowicki completed his habilitation at the Theological Faculty of the University of Warsaw . In 1950 he was appointed professor at the Catholic University of Lublin . There he was elected rector in 1951 , but the state authorities refused to recognize this election.

On March 23, 1968 Nowicki was appointed Titular Bishop of Pupiana and Apostolic Administrator of the part of the Archdiocese of Lviv located in Poland . On June 2, 1968 he donated the Archbishop of Warsaw Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski , the episcopal ordination , co-consecrators were Ignacy Tokarczuk Marcin , Bishop of Przemyśl and Wincenty Urban , auxiliary bishop of Gniezno .

Nowicki was the author of numerous publications in the field of canon law . He died of a heart attack .
