Jan Heitmann (journalist)

Jan G. Heitmann (born December 14, 1960 in Hamburg ) is a German historian and journalist . He was editor-in-chief of the magazine Schiff & Zeit and has held the same position at the Preussische Allgemeine Zeitung since 2011 .

Life

From 1982 to 1989 , Heitmann studied history , political science and public law as well as social and economic history at the University of Hamburg . In 1989 he obtained his master's degree with a thesis on The End of the Second World War in Hamburg . In 1996 he went to the New World with his dissertation under water. Commercial submarines and imperial submarine cruisers in the field of tension between politics and warfare to Dr. phil. PhD .

From 1990 he worked as a freelance historian and worked for a British publishing house. Heitmann then completed a traineeship at the Preußische Allgemeine Zeitung (PAZ) and was editor there until 1998 . He also worked for several CDU politicians and was a lecturer at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . He went to Schiff & Zeit magazine as editor-in-chief . In July 2011, he succeeded the publisher and acting editor-in-chief Wilhelm von Gottberg as editor-in-chief of the PAZ.
