Jan Henryk Bartsch German : Johann Heinrich von Bartsch († 1718 in Kamjanez-Podilskyj ) was a Polish major general .

Life

Bartsch was a member of the Prussian- Polish noble family Bartsch von Demuth .

He served as an officer in the Polish Crown Army . From 1700 to 1714 he was in command of the Holy Trinity Fortress in Okopy Świętej Trójcy . When he took up his position as the fortress commander, he was a lieutenant colonel , but in 1707 he was promoted to colonel in the infantry of Hetman Adam Mikołaj Sieniawski . He was very committed, paid the wages of his crew and fortification work several times out of his own pocket. In 1710 he became a brigadier "cum inspection" at the General Staff. He was promoted to major general on June 18, 1711. In 1714, Bartsch succeeded Christoph von Rappe as the commander of the important fortress in Kamianets-Podilskyi.

From his correspondence it appears that he had a very good command of the Polish language .

His marriage to Katarzyna Gruszecka gave birth to the four children Wawrzyniec (Laurentius), Franciszek (Francis), a major in the infantry of the Crown Army in 1719 , Marek (Markus) and Urszula (Ursula).
